Create more productive and motivated teams
Teams are fundamental to performance in any organisation, and yet difficult to understand, align and develop. To unlock the full potential of your team it is important to raise self-awareness and emotional intelligence, both of the team leader and each team member.
Working with the Enneagram will help your team members understand:
- what are my strengths and development areas?
- how do my behaviours support or limit team success?
- why do other team members or stakeholders look at issues so differently?
- what is my role in overall team dynamics?
- how can we promote and leverage diversity?
- how can we work more effectively as a team?
What is the Enneagram?

The Enneagram is a model of personality archetypes that uncovers the patterns of thoughts and feelings that sub-consciously drive and motivate us to behave in certain ways. When we make these patterns conscious, we are able to develop a richer, more supportive awareness of ourselves and those around us. Working with the Enneagram empowers team members to take responsibility for their own behaviours and work together from a greater understanding of why they behave and react the way they do.
The Enneagram growth model brings team working to a deeper level by working on causes rather than symptoms. It helps us understand differences in personalities and offers a growth path both for participants individually and for the team as a whole.
The 9 Enneagram Types
There are 9 archetypes of personalities in the Enneagram model. We all have parts of all 9 types in us, but there will be one type that dominates how we engage with the world. Understanding what this type is, what drives it and why other people default to different types, is a quantum leap in developing emotional intelligence. It will be interesting to see which of these types are over or underrepresented in your team and how this impacts team effectiveness.

The individual Enneagram reports
Participants of an Enneagram team workshop will complete a detailed online questionnaire to establish their most expressed Enneagram archetype prior to the event. They will then receive a personalised report with comprehensive information about their dominant Enneagram type, including strengths and development areas. The report also contains an assessment of their current stress levels and proposed development actions.
Individual debrief sessions
It is good practice to invite each team member to a private debrief session with an Enneagram facilitator prior to the team event, so that they understand their own report before team dynamics are discussed. It is common for people to have many questions about their individual report, in particular about sections that deal with blind spots, and these questions are best dealt with before attendees meet as a group.
In the private debrief session, your coach will explain the themes flagged in the report and how the information can be used for personal and professional growth.
The Enneagram team report
We will also generate a team report which establishes the Enneagram type of the team This report contains a wealth of information about the following themes that apply to the team as a whole:
- team strengths & development areas
- team instincts
- team interaction styles
- team conflict styles
- team growth opportunities
The report also explores which types are over and under represented and what this means for the effectiveness of the team.

Benefits of running an Enneagram team workshop
Participants usually engage strongly with Enneagram events because they are amazed at how accurately their individual report describes their patterns of thoughts, feelings and actions. They also understand that the workshop will benefit them not just professionally, but also personally as the learnings also apply to personal relationships.
Some of the organisational benefits include:
- Improve understanding between team members
- Develop communication and conflict management skills
- Value and leverage diversity
- Understand what motivates your staff
- Generate ideas for improving team effectiveness
- Increase team morale
- Build trust between team members
