In one of my favourite musicals, called “Big Fish”, the lead character tells his son that he can write his own life story in which he can “Be the Hero of Your Life”.
I love that notion.
Often we admire stories of OTHERS who have overcome adversity or even tragedy in their lives. Now the world is going through one of its biggest challenges and we can decide who WE want to be during this crisis. We cannot change what is happening right now, but we can change how we react and the narrative about what’s happening right now.
Close your eyes and, mentally, take a step back from your current life situation, as if you were watching your own life on a movie screen. How would you, as the hero of the movie, handle the current crisis? Add some dramatic music to this image and let your imagination flow.
What are you doing as the hero?
- helping others?
- learning new skills?
- reconnecting to old friends?
- creating a new business plan?
- finding new ways of saving money?
By no way do I want to trivialise any of the hardship many people are suffering right now. At the same time, what is still possible in all of this to turn the current COVID 19 crisis into an opportunity; and create a story that you can tell your grandchildren in 20 years’ time?
